Village of Red Hook Speed Limit Initiative Monthly Report November 2023
During the November Board Meeting of Trustees, we passed a resolution to hire the firm Creighton Manning to move forward on an all-encompassing Traffic study that will take into consideration a school zone, village roads and the main throughways. They will compile a report based on their study (based on their findings) to aid in the documentation to lower the Area Village Speed Limit to 25 mph. The lower speed limit will help residents, businesses, and the overall safety of our village streets.
We have signed the contract and are waiting to hear when we should expect the work to be completed.

I attended the Town’s Greenway and Trails committee for the first time during the month of November. The committee discussed the improvements to the trails particularly connecting Rec Park West and East, the new trails to be developed on, what was previously, the Cookingham Farm which then will connect into Abraham’s park (which is village property). With these
expansions and amendments the Town is working to further connect and adapt the Village to Village trails which connects Red Hook to Tivoli. There was a discussion about reaching out to Bard about better connections for trail use and safety of pedestrians and cyclists traveling through the area (particularly those that commute regularly). How to work together to create a safer trail system.
This committee also discussed its partnership with Winnakee and ways to support their trail clean up and will be hosting a Trail clean up on December 9[th] (second Saturday of the month) to clean up the trails at Rec Park.
There was also discussion about future projects and other areas to expand the walkability of Red Hook.
