Mission To develop and facilitate the creation of public park, art, and community spaces throughout the Village of Red Hook

Public Meetings are held the 4th Saturday of each month at 10 am, in person at the Village Hall unless otherwise noted (email the PSI chair Ash Bradley-Rickard for the meeting location). The fourth meeting of the year was held at 10am on Saturday May 4[th] at Village Hall.

  • Seed Library : The seed library is currently hosted at the Red Hook Community Center

    - Work is underway with the Community Center leadership to relocate the library from the basement to a more prominent location 
    
    - Concurrent with the planned move will be a redesign of the library as well as installing new signage which will be donated by a local artist 
    
    - Ideally the move will be completed by the June 15[th] “Hello Blooms” event at the RHCC 
    
  • Abraham’s Park : As part of the ongoing redesign visioning, work is underway to produce a survey that will capture public input from Village residents and also other park users

    - The PSI has reached out to Bard College to initiate conversations on a possible collaboration for a studio art program outdoor exhibit

  • Apple Blossom Day, May 11: PSI members will be tabling to share pollinator garden information, provide garden advice, and distribute seeds

  • Historic Red Hook “Then & Now” event, June 1[st] 11am – 4pm at the Elmendorph Inn. This year’s event is themed “Farms, Food, and Families which is congruent with the PSI’s mission. The PSI will be tabling at the event. Prior to the event PSI volunteers will clean up the Elmendorph’s pollinator garden.

  • Hello Blooms, June 15[th] , 11:30am – 2:30pm will be held in partnership with RHCC. Activities will include a plant give-away, informational tables, painting and pot decorating for kids, music, and a tours of the Community Center pollinator garden and seed library. Activities will be outdoors, weather permitting, or inside the Community Center in the event of rain.

Planning Update

On Tuesday April 30[th] Mayor Smythe and Trustee Appenzeller had a Zoom meeting with Bonnie Franson with Nelson Pope and Voorhis (NPV), the firm working with the Village to support the planning for the Village Gateway (Cookingham East) project. The meeting was a productive working session to review a preliminary draft of NPV’s land use and zoning study. NPV will incorporate feedback from the meeting and continue augmenting the report with the goal of having a draft for an in-person meeting with the full project task force.

The secondthird meeting of the year was held at 10am on Saturday March 230[ndth] at Village Hall. ## **Key Topics** - The topic of public purpose for spending funds was discussed and the Chair will be contacting the Events team to coordinate upcoming events for the year. - As part of the PSI outreach efforts the committee will be tabling at the Red Hook Repair Café on April 6[th] at the Red Hook Community Center. ## **2024 Planning** The primary focus of the meeting was continuing the planning for the upcoming year. All agreed 2024 should build on existing successful activities while broadening the reach of the PSI work. At the next meeting a preliminary budget will be reviewed. Having a PSI table banner was identified as a short‐term priority item. Discussion centered around the following ideas: - Look for ways to become more involved in local events and spread the word about PSI including by having a presence at local events such as the April 6th Repair Café at RHCC, AppleBlossom Day - June 15th Hello Spring Event (PSI) will be held in partnership with RHCC. Location to be determined but focus could be in the front space of Village Hall to complement any other possible projects in that area. - Community Center Pollinator Garden: Plan on maintenance of current garden with the possibility of expansion to other areas in the front of the building. RHCC has a new gardener, and the team would like to meet with her to discuss the plans and maintenance of the garden. As a garden upgrade, small metal signs may be used to label plants so that visitors can identify what plants are usable in the area. - Pollinator Pathway: Linda workinghas to finalizefinalized the Pollinator Pathway website submission. PSI will share information at events on how people can self‐certify their gardens for the website. - Other Collaborations: Ash has reached out to Julia West, the art teacher involved in last year’ Abraham’s Park Art project. Bard is meeting first part of 2024 to plan the year and will then provide information for opportunities of collaboration. The possibility of utilizing Bard students as volunteers for events in June and Oct will be explored through Bard’s Center for Civic Engagement and the Village. - Library: Now has a resident Naturalist for 3 months, Susan Rogers. Alex, the director, is proposing a new Field Station next to the pond for nature engagement and viewing wildlife.
