Public Spaces Initiative July Board Update

Mission To develop and facilitate the creation of public park, art, and community spaces throughout the Village of Red Hook

Public Meetings are held the 4th Saturday of each month at 10 am, in person at the Village Hall unless otherwise noted (email the PSI chair Ash Bradley-Rickard for the meeting location). The July PSI meeting took place on Saturday July 27[th] at Village Hall.

Key Topics

  • Abraham’s Park : The PSI has reached out to Bard College to initiate conversations on a possible collaboration for a studio art program outdoor exhibit. The faculty members who may participate are away during the summer and discussions will commence in the fall.

  • Pollinator Gardens : Committee members will meet with Village representatives to look for potential new garden locations at the front of Village Hall or at the Village parking lot. If a suitable location can be identified, planning will take place later in the year.

  • Events

  • Hello Blooms, June 15[th] , was held in partnership with RHCC. The event was successful and the quality of engagement with visitors was excellent. The possibility of holding this event in an alternative location was discussed and this will be explored later in the year.

  • Oct 19[th] – Pumpkins in the Park Event. Outreach to the Village Events Committee and potential community partners will begin shortly

Planning Update

An in-person meeting was held on Friday June 21[st] with the Village and representatives of RUPCO, the developer of the Gateway project, and the Villages planner, Nelson Pope and Voorhis. The purpose of this meeting was to review the zoning and permitting processes for this project and discuss the timeline as well as initiate conversation on sewer capacity and expansion. After the meeting a site visit was held for all participants to walk the property.
