Village of Red Hook ~ Village Green Committee ~ Monthly Report ’ ' August 2024

The Current balances of the Village Green Committee’s related budget accounts, at the end of August are as follows:

  1. Community Beautification – contractual expenses (#8510.4) ----- no expenses, balance remains $440.03

  2. Shade Tree – contractual expenses (#8560.4) ------------------ no charges

  3. Village Green Committee Checking Account Balance ------------------$8,409.61

Our intern finished working with the committee and was able to update all the known trees into a document so that we can work on digitizing the inventory. The last few weeks of August Jason and I canvassed neighborhoods in the village to find locations for our Fall tree planting. It is that time of year again and our order into the nursery is soon upon us. We have a selection of four trees we are hoping to acquire for our Village Residents who want a tree planted in the right of way – Kentucky Coffee, Wedding Bells, Yellowood and Mountain Ash. We may be able to get a few other varieties depending on availability and their fit with our climate, soil, current canopy diversity.

Residents and businesses interested in having a tree(s) planted on their adjacent Village Street or NYS highway right-of-way’s, volunteering for planting days, or sponsoring a VGC beautification project, please contact myself, Kym BradleyRickard, or Jen Cavanaugh - Village Clerk.

Meetings are open to the public and we welcome all to join. Please reach out if you are interested in joining the next meeting.

Village of Red Hook ~ Sewer Department ' Monthly Report ‘ 1 August 2024

Continuing to work on Phase II expansion and waiting to hear back on our grants that were submitted. We meet every other Friday. If you have concerns about the expansion and/or are currently in the Sewer Use Area and have comments, concerns, etc. please do not hesitate to reach out. There is also the expression of interest form up on our website if you are wanting to connect into

the sewer (capacity required). It will put you on our list of places to consider and puts you on our radar.

As a reminder to all residents whether you are in the Sewer Use Area or not be kind to your pipes! Please put only 3 P’s in the toilet: Pee, Poop and (Toilet) Paper and while in the kitchen (or near other drains) no Fats, Oils, or Grease “FOG” – they clog up the pipes and make the system stressed. What goes down the drain matters!

If you are in the sewer use area and the emergency alarm goes off, call the Village Sewer Operator (845) 758-1081, option 8. Press the “Silence Alarm” button ONLY AFTER notifying the Sewer Operator. Please do not open the box or tamper with Village owned equipment.

Village of Red Hook i Speed Limit Initiative 1 Monthly Report ’ ' August 2024

The engineering firm has been finishing up the data collection and reviewing the school speed limit task. At the end of August they were looking at the state road sections in case there were any applicable findings to add to the school zoon. There is much to consider when thinking about the speed limit and school zone. We plan to meet with the school district’s superintendent to discuss options and thoughts once we have the report at hand and know what data we are looking at.

There were some construction detour signs made to direct people around the Bard building site adjacent to the Tivoli Bays entrance that were hung. The Town’s supply of printed maps was exhausted and the committee had extra funds available and discussed using some of those funds to purchase more printed maps. Dave Brangaitis has a commitment from Bard to split the cost of a bike repair station in central campus near the shuttle stop (along the V2V and EST). He priced the same model that is in other places along the EST. This would be located where there are surveillance cameras. He would handle yearly

maintenance if we cover the cost of replacement parts (est.$100/annually). This is the same type of Bike repair station that is in talk to be added in the Village as well – Dave agreed to maintain the village one as well. If you are curious about the stand you can find a similar one at Starr Library or along the Empire State Trail.

WLT is making slow but steady progress on the installation of the split rail fence at the Aspinwall entrance. This hot, wet summer has been tough for volunteers to join, there were a few volunteer days but hoping better weather for the upcoming work days.

The Greenway Trails committee is interested in spearheading a task force (with the Village and the CSC taskforce ) to look into alternative off-road pathways to the center of the Village.

There were requests to fill out the statewide Transportation Master Plan Survey which is available to the public. If you are interested, please click here. Remember that trails are an important part of the transportation infrastructure.

Village of Red Hook Climate Smart Communities Monthly Report ‘ 1 August 2024

The taskforce met twice during the month of August as a hybrid meeting as one of our members is still out of state and there were a few illnesses. We have completed our round of the assessment with Lindsey (our new representative from CCE). We are moving forward. Additionally, CSC is in conversation with climate stakeholders in the area including Bard, Sustainable Hudson Valley, the Village of Rhinebeck’s CSC and the Town of Red Hook’s CAC – to partner and host a free screening of Beyond Zero – the story of a CEO who transformed his company in pursuit of sustainable and regenerative practices.
