Goals of community engagement are to: Reach as many residents as possible Engage with representa ve cross sec on of the town Reach key stakeholder groups and members of the community that may not typically engage with local government Provide a variety of opportuni es for the community to interact with the comprehensive planning process Make sure people feel heard – be clear about how their input will be used and follow through in the plan Balance the desire for a community-driven planning process and the need to keep the project on me and in-budget A variety of engagement tools are proposed, including: Workshops Focus groups Kitchen table conversa ons Interviews Exis ng community events Pop-up board Youth engagement Public hearing A community engagement subcommi ee of the Steering Commi ee is also proposed.
Community engagement is proposed to take place throughout the dura on of the project, with different thema c focus depending on the stage of the project. The Steering Commi ee discussed the proposed plan, a preliminary dra interviewee list and poten al venues for engagement events. Next Steps Commi ee members were invited to provide feedback on the community engagement plan, preliminary interviewee list and engagement subcommi ee descrip on. Prior to the next mee ng, the consultant team will con nue working on plans for community engagement and compiling exis ng condi ons data. The July mee ng will focus on exis ng condi ons data and an interac ve Smart Growth ac vity led by a representa ve from the NYS Department of State.
