The meeting was called to order by Mayor Smythe. ## **PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING OCTOBER AS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH.** WHEREAS, Breast Cancer accountsis the most common cancer in women in the United States, except for skin cancer, accounting for about 30% or 1 in 3 of all new female cancers each year. The American Cancer Society estimates there will be 310almost 317,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer diagnosed in the United States in 20242025, and; WHEREAS, - improvements in early detection and treatment contributed to a 43 percent44% decline in the breast cancer death rate in the United States since 1989, and - early detection saves lives. When caught in its earliest, localized stages, the last5-yr thirtyrelative yearssurvival rate for breast cancer is 99%, and; WHEREAS, Northern Dutchess Hospital is building its Breast Cancer program using cutting edge treatment protocols and recruiting a team of renowned doctors in the field, and; WHEREAS, - every October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we honor those women battling breast cancer, along with the families, researchers, and health care providers whose hard work gives hope to those living with breast cancer, and; WHEREAS, - we want to encourage all residents, government agencies, and local businesses to participate in activities that will increase awareness of the fight against breast cancer. NOW, RESOLVED THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, thatclauses: - we, the Village Board of the Village of Red Hook do proclaim the month of October 20242025 as: NATIONAL BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH AND, BE, IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that - we, the Village Board of the Village of Red Hook invite the community to join Northern Dutchess Hospital’s “'Light the Village Pink' in celebration during the month of October to raise funds which will help grow breast cancer services for people in the community, including education, risk reduction, screenings, diagnostics, and treatments and will also help Northern Dutchess Hospital launch a breast cancer survivorship program.
