Village Green Commiee May Report

The village green committee had their annual spring Arbor Day planting day. The committee and volunteers met at Abraham’s Park early Saturday morning April 22 where Chair of the committee, Dave Pearson, welcomed the volunteers and talked about our long history of being a Tree City USA and the importance of Arbor Day and tree planting. Dave read the annual Arbor Day proclamation declaring April 22 Arbor Day 2023.

In preparation for the planting, holes were dug Friday by Michelle Decker and me. Jake from the highway department dropped off mulch bags. The volunteers were instructed how to properly place the tree into the corresponding hole, ill it with dirt and lay the turf back upside down. That Saturday, ten trees were planted--two in Abrahams Park, two in Memorial Park, one on Church St and ive on Firehouse Ln. We had ive planters to start two teams. Kathy, Brian, Ash, Neville, and Dave. A couple other volunteers showed up later to help inish planting. We met back together later to inish the Church St tree. Chris watered the trees later. Despite having smaller numbers at the planting this Spring it went well.

Dave and I will be meeting middle of the e month to discuss potential collaboration projects and how to get more volunteers and members involved in the committee. If you are interested in joining the Village Green Committee or want to know more information you can email Chair, Dave Pearson or myself.
