RESOLVED
- The Town of Red Hook authorizes the Climate Smart Task Force, chaired by Laurie Husted, to pursue certification under the Audubon International Sustainable Communities Program, subject to approval by the Town Board as to such actions, policies and goals as may be recommended from time to time
- This resolution shall take effect immediately

- WHEREAS, the Town of Red Hook Town Board's CAC and Energy Committee have undertaken a number of activities in support of for the Town's climate change action initiatives including, among other things, the preparation of a climate action plan adopted by the Town Board
- WHEREAS, the Town has appointed a local climate change task force including members of the CAC and Energy Committee and others to provide the Town Board with information about establishing and implementing climate smart initiatives, to propose new ideas to the Town Board, and to identify funding sources for projects and paybacks from investments
- WHEREAS, the climate change task force has recommended that the Town consider entering into the Audubon International Sustainable Communities Program, which is an international, science-based, third-party certification program that guides communities through a customized journey to become healthy and vibrant places in which to live, work, and play
- WHEREAS, the program areas of focus include: Agriculture; Economic Development & Tourism; Education; Environmental Issues; Governance; Public Health; Housing; Open Space & Land Use; Planning, Zoning, Building & Development; Population; Public Safety & Emergency Management; Recreation; Resource Use; Transportation; and Volunteerism & Civic Engagement
- WHEREAS, as part of the Sustainable Communities Program certification process, the Town would appoint a sustainability coordinator to work with an Audubon International staff person to establish priorities and develop a plan, building on the work of the Climate Action Plan and the Climate Smart Task Force, in order to further sustainability goals in support of a healthy environment, quality of life, and economic vitality
