Dutchess County Government Department of Planning & Development Division of Solid Waste Management

Dear Municipal Leaders,

Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino and the Division of Solid Waste Management are excited to announce our Textile Recycling Program to include curbside textile collection in partnership with Helpsy . This new service gives residents a simple, free way to recycle clothes, shoes, linens, and other textile materials that often end up in the trash.

With this program, residents who reside in participating municipalities can schedule free pickup appointments on designated service days. On the scheduled date, a Helpsy service provider will collect the bagged items directly from their home. All items are then processed by Helpsy for reuse or recycling – helping reduce landfill waste and supporting a greener future for our communities.

Municipalities will also have the option to enter into an agreement for free Helpsy-provided collection containers at a location or locations within their municipality, offering residents additional access to clothing recycling options.

Municipalities and their residents can utilize the textile collection program to:

  • Schedule free residential curbside textile collection appointments online;

  • Recycle a wide variety of clothing, footwear, accessories, and linens;

  • (optional) Provide locations to Helpsy for clothing containers to offer drop-off textile options for residents;

  • Helpsy will handle all resident questions related to what items are accepted, cancellations, and rescheduling in the event of inclement weather, etc.;

  • Helpsy will pay participating municipalities $40/ton for all saleable textiles collected from home pickup programs and $140/ton for all saleable textiles collected from bins, not to exceed $1500 annually.

Participation in this program is free for municipalities to utilize and promote to residents. To join the curbside textile collection program, please fill out the enrollment section at the bottom of this letter.

By participating in the residential curbside textile collection program, the municipality agrees to:
