Re: Site Visit Inspection Village of Red Hook WWTP SPDES # NY0271420

Dear Village Officials:

On December 16, 2025, a site visit of the above referenced facility was conducted along with the plant operator based on the NY-Alert received by the Department. The NY-Alert was issued by the Village, December 12, 2025, for the notification of the sewage overflow at the EQ tank. At the time of inspection, the overflow had ceased, and no standing water was found on site and did not experience sewage odors at the facility. The overflow did not reach the nearby stream, and the EQ pump was operating in a normal manner.

The Department acknowledges that the facility recently undertook several operational and maintenance measures to comply with the SPDES permit and the Article 17 of the Environmental Conservation Law (ECL). Please note that the Department will monitor the facility’s compliance with its SPDES permit.

B. Inspection Details:

B1. Inspection Comments: The Department received a NY-Alert on 12/12/2025 regarding the EQ tank overflow at the WWTP. A site visit was conducted by the DEC staff along with the plant operator, Les Coon, 12/16/2025 and toured the area near the overflow/ EQ tank at the 50,000 gpd plant. At the time of inspection, the overflow had ceased, and it did not reach the nearby stream. At the time of overflow on 12/12/2025, the pump was shut down for inspection and the line was drained, and restarted the pump, and subsequently restored the normal pumping to the plant. The estimated volume of overflow was approximately 1,000 gallons. The lime was applied to the affected area. No standing water was found on site and did not experience the sewage odors.
