VILLAGE OF RED HOOK RESOLUTION #___ - 2025 DATED: JULY 14, 2025

A meeting of the Village of Red Hook Board of Trustees was convened in public session at the Village Hall, 7467 South Broadway, Red Hook, NY on July 14, 2025. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Smythe.

RESOLUTION TO ESTABLISH THE PUBLIC SPACES COMMITTEE

WHEREAS, the Village of Red Hook seeks to activate and enhance the public parks in the Village; and

WHEREAS, the Village seeks to promote and preserve the natural environment both public and private,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT; the Village Board of Trustees hereby creates the Public Spaces Committee as follows:

Membership:

  • Public Spaces Committee members will be appointed by the mayor and approved by the Board.

  • Committee Chair will be appointed by the mayor and approved by the Board.

  • Committee must be made up of a majority of Village residents.

  • A Board member, appointed by the mayor, will serve as liaison to the Board, responsible for reporting on the actions of the Committee.

  • Committee members will serve two (2) year terms.

  • There shall be a minimum of three members and a maximum of 10 members.

  • Volunteers are welcome to attend and assist at any time under the direction of the Chair.

Meeting Guidelines:

  • The Committee shall be open to the public when a quorum is present.

  • Agendas and Minutes of all meetings shall be kept and filed with the Village Clerk.

  • A meeting schedule shall be established by the Chair and all meetings shall be posted at least one week in advance on the Village website and open to the public.

  • A virtual option shall be made available unless the meeting is held outside.

Powers & Duties:

  • The Village Public Spaces Committee is charged with:

    • advising the Village Board on how best to enhance and preserve public green space, including the Richard M. Abrahams Memorial Park,

    • reviewing and making recommendations to the Village Board on possible local laws to promote pollinators, native plants, and natural land use,

  • recommending to the Village Board how to proceed with the Pollinator Pathway project,

  • recommending ways to incorporate art into public spaces and develop a procedure for that to happen, and

  • implementing actions approved by the Village Board.
