VILLAGE OF RED HOOK RESOLUTION #____ of 2025 DATED: JUNE 9, 2025

A meeting of the Village of Red Hook Board of Trustees was convened in public session at the Village Hall, 7467 South Broadway, Red Hook, NY on June 9, 2025. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Karen Smythe.

RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE RED HOOK VILLAGE GREEN COMMITTEE

WHEREAS, Chapter 179 of the Village Code (“Community Forestry Program”) establishes the Village Green Committee under 179-4 Administration for the Community Forestry Program; and

WHEREAS, the Village Board of Trustees would like to clarify the structure and powers and duties of the Village Green Committee;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, The Village Board of Trustees hereby authorizes the Village Green Committee as follows:

Membership:

  • Chapter 179-4 of the Village Code, the Village Green Committee will consist of three officers appointed in December, all to be residents of the Village

  • Additional members may be appointed by the mayor, approved by the Village Board. There is no maximum number of members, however, a majority of the members shall be residents of the Village.

  • A Board member, appointed by the mayor, will serve as liaison to the Board, responsible for reporting on the actions of the Committee

  • Officers and members will serve one (1) year terms, not subject to term limits.

Meeting Guidelines

  • The Committee shall follow the Open Meetings Law

  • Agendas and Minutes of all meetings shall be kept and filed with the Village Clerk

  • A meeting schedule shall be established by the Chair and all meetings shall be posted one week in advance on the Village website and open to the public.

Powers & Duties:

  • The Committee is charged with developing and administering the details of the Community Forestry Program as laid out in Chapter 179 of the Village Code, in collaboration with the DPW Foreman.

  • As per Chapter 179-2, the Village will set aside a budget of at least $2 per capita, based on Village population, for the implementation of the Community Forestry Program

  • The Committee will advise the Board on any recommended adjustments to the Community Forestry Program.

  • The Committee will organize and host an annual Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

  • The Committee will keep and update the tree inventory of the Village.

  • The Committee will adhere to the Tree City USA guidelines to ensure continued acceptance as a Tree City USA.

  • Any bench donations will be coordinated through the Committee.

  • Additional beautification/planting/education projects can be recommended to the Board.
