At the end of the month, The Village Green Committee via one of the members and myself attended the NYS Urban Forestry’s 2024 Annual Tree Cities Recognition Luncheon at SUNY New Paltz. Not only were we recognized as being a member of the Tree Cities program for 22 years but were also able to network with fellow Tree City, Tree Line and Tree Campus members. It was a great opportunity to network, workshop ideas and discuss what other people are doing in the tree world.
As the VGC is working on diversifying our tree population here in the Village and boosting our native tree species we looking to tackle the large project of taking inventory of the trees. If we don’t know what we have it is harder to diversify our tree population. This project is quite the undertaking and we hope to be able to reach out for some grant money and other support to help us get it done. We also need more people to help with the project so if you are interested in learning more about tree diversity and how that affects the health of the village please reach out!
Our annual Tree planting is EARLY! Last month we were estimated the tree planting to be at the end of the month, however, we received notice the trees will be delivered on this Wednesday with the planting scheduled for SATURDAY APRIL 13! If you are interested in planting trees with us (no experience necessary) we will meet in the Village LOT this time for a little Tree demo and to break into groups. Also this will be the Annual Arbor Day Tree planting! We hope to see you there.
Residents and businesses interested in having a tree(s) planted on their adjacent Village street or NYS highway right-of-way’s, volunteering for planting days, or
